Two Friends and a Dream
In 2006, John Kostro and Dan Lightner had a dream. They had known each other for years after becoming good friends on the golf course. Both were seasoned businessmen and believed in the powerful legacy of small business ownership. So, the two entrepreneurs decided to go into business together. They were told it’s never a good idea to start a business with a friend but the two of them were determined to make it work. Their first idea was to buy a swimming pool dealership. While John and Dan were conducting their research, homeowners told them something that would change the lives of countless franchise business owners. Most people just didn’t like the boring, gray concrete that surrounded their pools. They wanted something more artistic and beautiful. A light bulb went off.
John and Dan immediately switched gears and founded the concrete resurfacing franchise, All American Decorative Concrete® to provide the in-demand concrete designs that homeowners wanted.
Making Art Out of Ordinary Concrete
As their new decorative concrete franchise grew, John and Dan expanded their offerings to include both indoor and outdoor concrete applications, removing the seasonality that was associated with the concrete resurfacing industry. They went from concrete resurfacing of pool decks, walkways, driveways, patios, and ventured into interior spaces for homes and businesses. Soon, All American Decorative Concrete® caught the attention of Home Franchise Concepts®, a leading home services franchisor in North America. Seeing the enormous potential in multi-billion-dollar niche industry of decorative coatings and concrete resurfacing marketplace, Home Franchise Concepts acquired the All American Decorative Concrete in 2014 and rebranded it as Concrete Craft®, as what we do after all, is artistry.
A Concrete Resurfacing Franchise With A Big Heart
Today, Concrete Craft is part of the lives of successful franchise owners, homeowners, and businesses all over the U.S. and Canada and still growing. It’s clear that Dan and John made the right choice nearly two decades ago to go into business together and revolutionize the decorative concrete industry and they had a lot of fun doing it before hanging up their work boots in 2024.
In 2020, some of Home Franchise Concepts family of home service brands, including Concrete Craft, were proud to partner with the iconic TV show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to transform the lives of two deserving families in the Los Angeles area by installing beautiful, decorative concrete overlays in their backyards.
Why We're The Best
“Concrete Craft has been there since the beginning. For years, we’ve worked on developing proprietary formulas & coatings so we can offer premium decorative concrete services at a fraction of the cost of other materials. This creates value for both our franchisees and their customers, and that’s what makes the Concrete Craft business model so unique and attractive.”
